Stolen Car Chase Ends With Serious Injuries In New Jersey

On Wednesday night in Paramus, NJ, a 17-year-old driver attempted to flee from police in an SUV that was stolen. In the process of evading law enforcement, he crashed his vehicle into two other cars – one being a police cruiser and the other a Lexus containing two women occupants – which caused all three individuals to be sent to the hospital for their injuries sustained in the car accident. According to Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg of the Paramus Police Department, this incident occurred near Century and Paramus Roads at approximately 11 PM local time.

At approximately 11:30 PM, Paramus Police Officers encountered a 17-year-old as well as two other teens, aged 15 and 16, attempting to steal a car from Lawrence Drive – prompting them to flee in the Hyundai Tucson previously reported stolen from Irvington earlier that day. Officer Slavko Bajovic remained on their tail throughout this thrilling chase.

The police officer encountered the teenagers on a dead-end street, yet they managed to evade capture by ramming into the patrol car and fleeing southward down Farview Avenue. Ultimately, their reckless driving resulted in a crash with a Lexus that left two women injured; one 56 years old and the other 22. Both were hospitalized before the teens attempted to make an escape but were apprehended shortly after and arrested by authorities.

The 17-year-old was charged by the police with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, attempted auto theft, stolen vehicle possession, and eluding. Additionally, both of the younger teens were accused of joyriding while the 16-year-old acquired charges for attempting to steal an automobile as well as resisting arrest.

After being presented to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center, the 17-year-old was held in custody; meanwhile, two other minors were returned home after their families failed to pick them up from police headquarters.
